Sacred Heart went 3-3 on the weekend
TAMPA, Fla. – The Sacred Heart University women's rugby team finished in sixth place at the Tropical 7s Tournament in Tampa, Fla. The team went 3-3 on the weekend to secure the sixth place finish out of 12 elite teams.
On Friday, the Pioneers opened the day with a loss to Harvard but bounced back with a 34-14 victory over LIU, followed by a 19-12 win over Quinnipiac.
On Saturday, SHU fell to Brown to start the day before taking down Quinnipiac again, 33-34. The Pioneers fell in the final game of the day to the Tsunami Canada Misfits to conclude the weekend with a 3-3 record.
"Tropical 7s was a successful weekend," said head coach Michelle Reed. "It gave us the chance to test our game plan and various line-ups against solid competition. We had great team collaboration throughout the tournament leading to several individuals showing up in the points column."
"Individually, Alyssa Cunningham and Caitlyn Caldon gave all-out performances, creating key moments shifting the momentum back in our direction," added Reed.
"I am proud of how we were able to bounce back in certain situations and play as a connected unit. I am excited to see us continue to unlock our 7s potential in the coming weeks."
Sacred Heart is back in action on Sunday, April 7 at Harvard's Crimson 7s Tournament.
