Sloan named Assistant Coach for women's wrestling
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart University women's wrestling head coach Paulina Biega announced Monday afternoon that Kenya Sloan will join the 2024-25 coaching staff as the team's new assistant coach.
''I am very excited for Kenya to join our team,'' said Biega. "I had the pleasure of coaching her while serving at Campbellsville University, and I know how much she brings to the table. She is not only an amazing athlete but also a great person. She is dedicated, driven, passionate, and kind. I know she will deeply care about our student-athletes and help them grow as athletes and people.''
Sloan joins the Pioneers after serving as the founder and head coach of the Knoxville Girl's Wrestling Club. The club offered supplemental training to middle and high school females in addition to its school wrestling programs. In its inaugural year, the club won the TN Freestyle State Tournament.
Before that role, she served as a clinician at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs for girls' U17 developmental camp. She also volunteered as a coach for the girls' wrestling program at Knoxville Catholic High School and as a volunteer cohost and representative for girls' wrestling on the official TN USAW Podcast.
Outside wrestling, Sloan worked as a flexologist for Stretchlab and a physical therapy tech for Strive Physical Therapy.
Before coaching, Sloan was a four-year Campbellsville University women's wrestling team member and was a four-time TSSAA State Champion. At Campbellsville, she served as team captain and was a 2022 NAIA National Champion. Sloan also was a 2019 Junior Pan American Champion.
''I am beyond excited to be joining the SHU Women's Wrestling family!," said Sloan. "I know the vision and high expectations that Coach Biega has set for this program. I am honored to have the opportunity to partner with her and the SHU community to continue bringing that vision into reality."
Sloan earned her bachelor's degree in exercise science and educational ministries from Campbellsville University.
