FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team defeated America East opponent, NJIT, Tuesday night 1-0.
Sam McCann secured the goal for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers came out pressuring Highlanders in the first half, out-shooting them 13-to-6 and 4-to-2 on goal. With the pressure came physicality, as the Pios racked up nine fouls to NJIT's five.
McCann put the Pios on the board first, securing the lone goal, in the 62
nd minute. He scored on
Alex Almuzara's deflected shot, finding the top left of the cage from the middle of the box.
As a result of a red card, the Pios played a man down for the last 12 minutes of the game. Despite the disadvantage, SHU held its own against the Highlanders, securing the shutout win.
NJIT's keeper Devin Armstrong put up a strong fight against the Pios as he secured seven saves.
