FAIRFIELD, Conn. - First place in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance will be on the line when Sacred Heart and LIU meet in a pair of games this weekend. The series begins on Long Island on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and then concludes at the Martire Family Arena on Sunday at 3 p.m.
OPENING FACEOFF
• Both the Pioneers (12-9-3, 11-4-3 NEWHA) and the Sharks (12-9-3, 12-4-2) enter the weekend with 36 points.
• Sacred Heart is coming off a home weekend series with Stonehill last weekend. The teams played a 3-3 draw (Stonehill won shootout) on Friday.
Anastasia Sloan,
Sydney Antonakis and
Isabella Chaput were the SHU goal scorers. On Saturday, the Skyhawks used a two-goal third period to break open a close game in a 3-0 win.
• Chaput leads the Red & White in goals (10) and points (15) heading into the weekend, having scored in two of her last four conference games.
Kailey Smith,
Kate Helgeson, and
Bria Holm top the team in assists, with Helgeson recording her sixth of the season in Friday's matchup against Stonehill.
• Antonakis,
Brianna Morden and
Lauren Larson were named to the weekly NEWHA Honor Roll on Tuesday.

Kailey Smith both have played in 98 career games.
• Sacred Heart and LIU split a two-game series earlier this season. Both games were decided by one goal. The Sharks won 3-2 on Long Island, while the Pioneers took a 1-0 decision the next day at Martire.
• LIU holds a 17-8-1 advantage in the all-time series.
SCOUTING LIU
• The Sharks are coming off a weekend sweep of Assumption.
• In Game 1, the Sharks struck twice in the first and again in the second to gain an early 3-0 lead. Assumption got on the board in the final frame as the Sharks prevailed 3-1.
• On Saturday, it was Assumption who struck early in the first, but LIU responded with goals in the second and third periods to secure a 2-1 victory and complete the sweep.
• Jeannie Wallner leads the Sharks this season with 9 goals, 8 assists, and 17 points. A senior, Feeney has accumulated 110 points over 130 games with the Sharks.
• In goal, Abbie Thompson has seen the majority of time between the pipes for the Skyhawks, starting 20 of 23 games. Carson currently holds a 1.83 goals-against average and .935 save percentage with an 11-7-1 record.
• Kelly Nash, in her third season as head coach, leads the Sharks. Nash has had success vs. the Pios, compiling a 7-3-0 record.
