Two-Goal Second Period Powers Women’s Hockey to Win

Pioneers knock off Assumption 2-1 at Martire

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Second-period goals from Isabella Chaput and Ella Holm earned the Sacred Heart women's hockey team an important 2-1 victory over Assumption at Martire Family Arena. 
 
The win, coupled with LIU's overtime victory over Saint Michael's, has the Pioneers back in sole possession of first place in the NEWHA.

OF NOTE 
 
• The Pioneers' first goal came on the power play midway through the second period when Chaput fired a shot from the point that got past Assumption goalie Jaclyn Weisner, who dealt with considerable traffic in front. 
 
• Holm's goal late in the second period came off a face off. LaRoche took a shot from the point that was deflected, but Holm whirled around and fired the puck past Weisner at 18:48. 
 
• Assumption's goal, scored by Alexa Hanrahan, came on a power play midway through the third period.  
 
• The Pioneers' defense was strong protecting the one-goal lead. Weiser only managed to get off the ice for an extra attacker for the final 25 seconds of the third period. 
 
• The two assists were a season high for LaRoche. 
 
• Chaput's goal was her team-leading 11th of the season. Holm's tally was her seventh, which is second. 
 
Lauren Larson made 35 saves, including 15 in the second period, to earn the victory. 
 
• Both teams finished 1-for-2 on the power play. 
 
WHAT'S NEXT 
 
The same two teams meet on Saturday in Worcester, Mass. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
