Captain’s Kick: Garcia Gallego Lifts Pios to Draw Between MAAC Unbeatens

David Garcia Gallego scores fourth goal of the season

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.- Senior captain David Garcia Gallego buried a 19th-minute free kick as the Sacred Heart University men's soccer team battled fellow unbeaten Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent Siena University to a 1–1 draw on Saturday afternoon at Mickey Field.

How it Happened: 

The Pioneers struck first in the 19th minute when Garcia Gallego drew a foul just outside the box and converted the ensuing free kick to give SHU an early 1–0 advantage.

Sacred Heart's defense stood tall for much of the match, keeping one of the MAAC's top-scoring offenses off the board for the first 69 minutes. Siena found the equalizer in the 70th minute, when Christian Amaral knotted the match at one apiece.

The Pioneers held a 5–4 edge in shots on goal and earned an 8–6 advantage in corner kicks, remaining unbeaten in MAAC play with their first conference draw of the season.

Of Note: 

  • David Garcia Gallego scored his fourth goal of the season. 
  • Pios currently hold first place in the MAAC with a 4-0-1  record.
