Vogt Scores Late as Sacred Heart Falls 3-1 at Providence

Hailey Vogt scored her fourth goal of the season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Sacred Heart University field hockey team dropped a 3-1 non-conference game to Providence on Sunday afternoon at Lennon Family Field.

Providence: 8-5 (1-3 Big East)

Of Note:
Providence opened the scoring in the first quarter when Bo Martina found the back of the cage at 9:01 off an assist from Johanna Mahner.  The Friars doubled their lead midway through the second quarter as as Lily Procaccianti converted a feed from Morgan Mastrobattisto to make it 2-0.

Martina struck again in the third period, notching her second goal of the day and eighth of the season to extend the Friars' advantage to 3-0.

Sacred Heart broke through late in the fourth quarter when Hailey Vogt scored her fourth goal of the season at 54:50, finishing off a penalty corner setup from Amelia Pellegrini. The Pioneers continued to pressure down the stretch, earning four corners in the final frame, but the Friars' defense held strong to seal the win.
