LORETTO, Pa. – The Sacred Heart University field hockey team fell, 1-0, to Saint Francis on Friday afternoon in NEC action at DeGol Arena.

After a scoreless first half, the Red Flash broke through midway through the third quarter for the game's lone goal.
The Pioneers battled throughout, creating several quality scoring chances, including four shots on goal, but the Saint Francis goalkeeper turned each away to preserve the shutout. Sacred Heart's best looks came in the first and fourth quarters, with sophomore Bridget McLaughlin tallying two shots on goal and senior Ines Braithwaite adding another.
In goal, junior Brianna Cooper kept the Pioneers within striking distance with seven saves, including five in a busy first quarter. Sacred Heart pulled Cooper in the closing minutes in search of the equalizer, but could not find the back of the cage.
