WALLINGFORD, Conn. – Play at the Quinnipiac Classic concluded Tuesday afternoon after Monday's rain out, as the Sacred Heart University women's golf team finished sixth at the 36-hole event played at the Farms Country Club in Wallingford, Conn.
The Pioneers finished the event with a team score of 637 (+34) after rounds of 322 and 315. SHU finished the first round this morning in fifth before settling into sixth after the second round. The host Bobcats claimed the win at their event at +32, while BC was a close second at +35.
Sophomore
Nahia Paulerena led the way for the Pioneers in both rounds, finishing in seventh place with a final score of 153 (+9). The Anglet, France, native opened the event with a three-over 75 in round one and closed it out with a six-over 78 in round two.
Maite Cantu was next on the leaderboard for SHU, tying for 20th. The fellow sophomore opened the tournament with an 80 (+8) after playing nine holes in the wet conditions during Monday's rain-shortened round one. She bounced back with a 78 (+6) on Tuesday.
The trio of
Garance Gueubel,
Jessie Burch and
Jade Haylock all finished clustered together. Gueubel led the group at 163 (+19) for 36th, while Burch and Haylock carded scores of 165 (+21). Gueubel placed 35th, while Burch and Haylock tied for 37th.
Shirley Ye rounded out SHU's competitors in T48th place with a final score of 169 (+25).
The Pioneers hit the course for the final time in the fall on Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 18-19, for the Lady Blue Hen Invite at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
