Fairfield, Conn. –  The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team is set for a rematch of the 2025 New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Championship against LIU. The Pioneers will open the weekend on the road with a 3:00 p.m. puck drop on Friday, November 20, before returning to Martire Family Arena for a 1:00 p.m. matchup on Saturday, November 21.

Top Headlines
  • Sacred Heart enters this NEWHA weekend series looking to break out of a three-game skid. Last season, the Pioneers' longest losing streak was four games, and they'll look to avoid matching that mark when they travel to LIU on Friday.
  •  Despite the slow start, the Pios are doing many things right. They're generating offensive chances at a high rate, averaging over 37 shots per game. The chances are there, now it's just about finishing opportunities and turning pressure into goals as they look to get back in the win column.
  •  After missing four games, junior Isabella Chaput made her return on Tuesday against Post. While she didn't find the back of the net, she still made an impact, recording two shots and two blocked shots in her first game back. Her presence is always noticeable. Defenders have to account for her every shift, and having her back in the lineup adds another offensive threat.

Last Time Out vs LIU
  • The Pioneers and Sharks most recently faced off in the 2025 NEWHA Championship, where Sacred Heart fell behind early but battled back to complete a thrilling comeback and capture the conference title.
  • The opening period was quiet, with neither team generating many dangerous chances. But once the second period began, the intensity shifted. LIU struck first, taking a 1–0 lead just five minutes in. From there, the Pioneers responded with authority, scoring three unanswered goals to surge ahead 3–1 heading into the final period of the championship game.
  • Late in the third, LIU made one final push, cutting the deficit to one with just over six minutes to play. But the Pioneers quickly answered. Just two minutes later, they scored another goal to seal the game and put the finishing touch on a historic season. Sacred Heart closed out the championship with a 4–2 victory.

History vs LIU
  • This weekend marks the 30th and 31st all-time meetings between the two programs. LIU currently leads the series with an 18–10–1 record, but the recent trend favors Sacred Heart. The teams met five times last season, with the Pioneers winning three of those matchups. SHU will look to build on that momentum as they prepare for a 2025 NEWHA Championship rematch against the Sharks.

On LIU
  • Like the Pioneers, the Sharks are a talented group still searching for their full stride. Despite averaging just 1.8 goals per game, they generate plenty of pressure, firing 33.5 shots per contest. On the season, LIU has outshot its opponents 402–335, showing that the opportunities are there, they just haven't been able to consistently finish.
  • The Sharks have also been strong in the faceoff circle, winning just over 50 percent of them this season. That success reflects how often LIU has been able to control possession, and it suggests that this is a team capable of putting together a run once everything starts to click.
  • Junior forward Grace Babington enters the weekend tied for the team lead with six points. A reliable playmaker, she finished last season as LIU's second-leading scorer and continues to be a consistent offensive presence. Babington has fired 48 shots this year, tied for the most on the roster, and ranks second on the team with 14 blocked shots. She's been a two-way force, contributing on both ends of the ice.
  • Junior goaltender Clara Kammholz has been a steady presence in net for the Sharks. Through 10 games, she owns a 1.79 goals-against average and has turned aside 228 shots, posting an impressive .931 save percentage. She has already recorded two shutouts this season and has consistently kept LIU competitive every time she's between the pipes.
