THE LEAD
A little basketball with your coffee never hurts anyone! The Sacred Heart women's basketball team completes its first back-to-back home games of the season on Wednesday with a mid-morning match-up against the Albany Great Danes who ride a four-game win streak into the Pitt Center.
SCOUTING SACRED HEART
The Pioneers look to stay unbeaten in this two-game homestand when they welcome Albany to The Pitt on Wednesday morning. Leading the Pioneers into the mid-morning match-up with the Great Danes is senior guard Amelia Wood who has led the team in scoring in four of the five games and is the lone player to average double figures at 12.7 ppg. Additionally, Wood leads the team in rebounding with a 5.8 per game average, steals with 11 and blocks with five. Following her in the scoring column is junior Missy Nuku who made her season debut last game against Mercy, scoring eight points and dishing out five assists. As a team, the Pioneers are shooting 35.0 percent from the field (113-of-323) with 25 of the 113 baskets from outside the arc. The biggest area of improvement for the Pioneers needs to come in ball control as they are currently turning the ball over at a clip of 20.2 turnovers per game.
SCOUTING ALBANY
The middle game of a three-game road trip for the Great Danes, Albany is coming off the heels of an overtime win over Bucknell (65-62) on Monday night in Lewisburg, PA. The Great Danes, the regular season champion in the America East last season, are led by rookie forward Amaya Stewart who is averaging 15.8 points coming off the bench for seventh-year head coach Colleen Mullen. Overall, Stewart is shooting 59% from the field, connecting on 53-of-90, while she is second on the team in rebounding (6.4 per game) and leads the team with nine blocks. The rookie is one of three players averaging double figures in the scoring column, followed by sophomores Delanie Hill (11.6 ppg) and Martina Borrellas (10.9 ppg). As a team, the Great Danes are shooting at an impressive 49.5 percent (206-416).

·      Wednesday morning's game is the sixth between the Pioneers and Great Danes.
·      The series returned after a 13-year hiatus last season with the Great Danes scoring a 61-49 win in Albany.
·      Overall, Albany holds a 3-2 record in the previous five meetings, with SHU winning in back-to-back meetings spread across four seasons - 2007-08 and 2010-11.
