WORCESTER, MASS — The Sacred Heart women's swimming and diving team returned to action at the Gompei Invitational for Day Two of competition.
The Pioneers opened the session with a statement win in the 400 Medley Relay, as Kristen Baker, Maggie Holland, Abby Hernandez, and Sophia Velleco powered SHU to a thrilling victory. Holland continued her standout weekend, climbing to second all-time in program history in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:05.62. Charlotte Kaduson also kept the momentum rolling with a third-place finish in the 200 Free.
Velleco added another event win to her resume with a victory in the 200 Free, while the Pioneers also claimed the 200 Free Relay behind the efforts of Emma Davis, Velleco, Emma Haas, and Baker.
Rounding out SHU's top performers, Baker finished second in the 50 Back and third in the 100 Back. Daniella Palamaro secured a runner-up finish in the 400 IM, Haas earned second in the 50 Fly, and Holland added another second-place result in the 100 Breast.
Pioneers lead the way on the women's side with 2463 points (784.5 points above 2nd place CCSU) and 4th overall depsite not having a men's team.
Sacred Heart returns to the pool tomorrow, December 7, for day three of the Gompei Invitational at WPI.
