FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University baseball team heads to the DMV this weekend for a three-game series against Big East opponent, Georgetown.
 
Game one is set for Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Capital One Park, with Saturday's game to follow at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Pios spent opening weekend at Founders Park facing South Carolina in a three-game series. SHU fell 5-3 Friday, 14-0 Saturday, and 8-0 on Sunday.
 
Catcher Steak Newman led the Pioneers, batting .500 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored - securing his first collegiate start and hit. At DH and third base, Tim McGuire hit .222 with a pair of base hits, one double and a run.
 
Starting in Sunday's game, Ryan Parker, a transfer student from Bethel, led the Pios the mound with a perfect 0.00 ERA allowing only one hit over five innings striking out two.
 
ON THE PIOS
The Pioneers finished their 2024 campaign as Northeast Conference (NEC) Regular Season Champions, falling to LIU in the NEC Championship final. SHU secured a 35-23 (25-8 NEC) record after being selected third in the NEC preseason poll.
 
SHU enters a new era of baseball as it heads into the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) this season. The Pioneers earned the third spot on the MAAC preseason poll and Dante D'Amore, Zack Kovalchik and Elijah Foster were all named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
 
SCOUTING THE HOYAS
Georgetown was selected fifth of eight in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll with Owen Carapellotti, Kavi Caster and Andrew Williams being named to the preseason team after making their first ever appearance at the BIG EAST Championship.
 
The Hoyas took game three, 5-1, of the opening series against Presbyterian on Saturday after falling in the first two games Friday. On Tuesday in a midweek matchup against George Mason, the Hoyas held out to beat the Patriots 15-14.
 
Playing in all four games for Georgetown, Dylan Larkins leads the Hoyas batting .417 with five hits, three runs and four RBIs. On the mound, Nadell Booker has had two appearances, pitching four innings with three strike outs and a perfect 0.00 ERA.
