Women's Basketball Bested in Defensive Battle against Peacocks

Pryor paced the Pioneers with 17 points
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team fell at home to Saint Peter's by a 54-44 final score on Saturday afternoon at the William H. Pitt Center.
For the 14th straight game, Ny'Ceara Pryor led the Pioneers in scoring with 17 points. She added nine rebounds, three assists and two steals to round out her stat line.
Emma Kirby also had a strong outing, tying a career-high with 11 rebounds to go along with eight points for a near double-double. Nalyce Dudley tied Kirby with eight points and added six rebounds of her own.

Sacred Heart got the better of the Peacocks early on, leading 6-4 through the opening 6:09. Unfortunately for SHU, Saint Peter's went on to score the next seven points, as a Dudley free throw set the score at 11-7 for SPU through one.
Pryor opened the second with seven of the first nine points to put the Pioneers ahead 14-13. The outstanding junior began the frame with a 3-pointer before hitting a layup and two free throws. Another long Peacocks' run ensued, as Saint Peter's scored 17 straight to end the quarter to build a 30-14 halftime lead.
The Pios burst out of the gates to start the third quarter, putting together a 9-0 run to cut the margin to seven, 30-23, at 5:51. Kirby posted four points in the surge, while Dudley had three and Pryor two.
SHU got as close as five points in the quarter, 33-28, but would go into the fourth trailing 41-30. Kirby hit a layup as time expired to keep Sacred Heart within 11 points.
The fourth featured back-and-forth play as SHU got as close as eight, 50-42. Unfortunately for the Pios, they could not get closer than that, as they suffered the home loss.
