FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University baseball team will face Navy in Annapolis, Md., at Bishop Stadium for a three-game series on Friday. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
Game one is slated for Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Capital One Park, with Saturday and Sunday's games to follow both set for 1:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Pios took a weekend series from Georgetown at Capital One Park last weekend after falling in game one. SHU fell 13-1 Friday and came back with an impressive 21-3 win Saturday, and 6-3 on Sunday.
Sophomore
Gavin Donohue led the Pioneers, batting .724 by going 8-for-11 at the plate. Donohue secured a slugging percentage of 1.445, with five runs, two doubles, one triple and a grand slam. The Melrose, Mass., native secured Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week with his weekend performance.
Sophomore
Peter Link also had an impressive performance at the plate averaging .455, secured a slugging percentage of .909, with five runs, two doubles, one home run and led the team with six RBIs.
Coming in for relief in Sunday's game,
PJ Rogan, a sophomore switch pitcher, led the Pios the mound with a perfect 0.00 ERA keeping the Hoyas scoreless allowing only two hits over 3.2 innings while striking out two and held his opponent to a batting average against of .154.
SCOUTING NAVY
Navy was selected second of six in the Patriot League Preseason Poll with Landon Kruer, Tyler Grenn and Brock Murtha named preseason All-Patriot League. Kruer, a RHP, was named to the 2025 Watch List for the Annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball.
The Midshipman improved to 2-5 with a midweek win over Manhattan on Tuesday, 7-4. Navy capitalized heavy on their base running as Brock Murtha stole four bases with two hits on the afternoon.
Playing in six of Navy's seven games, Ty DePerno leads the Midshipman, batting .333 with five hits, three RBIs and one home run. On the mound, Cody Clancy has had three appearances and one start, pitching 8.1 innings with nine strike outs and a 1.08 ERA.
