Men's Basketball Trio Brings In All-MAAC Honors

SHU placed three athletes on All-MAAC teams

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.—The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced its postseason awards, and the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team has three athletes that have earned All-MAAC honors.

Tanner Thomas was named to the All-MAAC second team, Anquan Hill earned a spot on the third team, and Mekhi Conner was placed on the All-Rookie team. 

Thomas, who was selected to the All-MAAC preseason team, earns the first postseason award of his career. He is the team leader and seventh in the conference in points per game, 14.9. The redshirt junior also leads the team and is 11th in the MAAC in rebounds per game with 6.3. Thomas has three double-doubles in the season and has scored in double figures in 20 games. He scored a career-high 30 points against Siena on January 16. 

Hill has earned his first postseason award since he was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year during his freshman year at FDU. The redshirt forward is second on the team in scoring with 12.8 ppg and third in rebounds with 5.1. He has the third-best field goal percentage in the MAAC, 55.3% (114-206), and second-best three-point field goal percentage in the league, 44.6% (37-83). This season, Hill has had three double-doubles along with 16 double-figure performances, including a career-high 24 points against Manhattan on February 2.

Conner brings in his first All-MAAC accolade with an outstanding rookie season. The first-year point guard has started in all but one game this season. He has been in the national rankings in assists and assists per game since early December. The New Haven, Conn. native is the league leader and is 10th in the country in assists with 203 and assists per game at 6.5. He also averages 8.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game. Conner has four games with 11 or more assists, including a career-high 16 against Canisius on January 23. 

A total of 38 student-athletes were also selected to the 2024-25 MAAC Men's Basketball All-Academic Team, announced by the league office today. Bryce Johnson and Raymond Espinal-Guzman represent Sacred Heart on the All-Academic team. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Sacred Heart finished the regular season as the seventh seed and will play in its first MAAC Postseason game on Tuesday, March 11, taking on 10th-seeded Fairfield University at 8:30 pm at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
