FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University baseball team will host Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent Saint Peter's University for its home opening series beginning Friday afternoon. The Pios have not faced the Peacocks since 2013 when they won 7-2.

Game one is slated for Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Veterans Park, with Saturday set for 1 p.m. and Sunday for noon.

LAST TIME OUT
The Pios took a weekend series from conference opponent Mount Saint Mary's last weekend after falling in game one. SHU fell 21-5 Friday and came back with an impressive 14-6-win Saturday and battled for a 7-6 win on Sunday.

The Pios dropped a mid-week road match to Yale on Wednesday, 9-5.

Gavin Donohue started and played all four games for the Pios, averaging .389 and extending his hitting streak to six games.

Chuck Tallman led the Pios on Wednesday against the Bulldogs going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs.

SCOUTING SAINT PETERS
Saint Peter's was selected 13th of 13 in the MAAC Preseason Poll with Ashby Vinning named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team as a utility player. The Peacocks are 4-11 overall and was swept by Rider in their conference-opening series last weekend to fall 0-3 in MAAC play.

Vining leads the Peacocks at the plate, averaging .466 with two doubles, seven home runs and 27 RBIs. The senior has a .500 on base percentage and .862 slugging percentage.

The Peacocks have heavily relied on their bullpen as none of their pitching staff has met the requirement of an inning pitched per game.

UP NEXT
The Pios ship up to Boston for a Tuesday mid-week game at Boston College for first pitch slated at 3 p.m.
