FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University baseball team opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play at Mount Saint Mary's in Emmitsburg, Md. for a weekend series beginning Friday.
Game one is slated for Friday at 2:00 p.m. at E.T. Straw Family Stadium, with Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and Sunday's game to follow at 1:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Pios took a road series from Navy last weekend, securing games one and two. SHU won 7-3 Friday, 5-4 Saturday and fell on Sunday 11-3.
Sacred Heart is fresh off a mid-week win against the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday with a ninth-inning comeback to win 5-4.
Steak Newman continues to be pivotal for the Pios at the plate. The sophomore catcher played in three of the four games batting .800 going 4-for-5. Newman tallied five RBIs, a home run.

Peter Link batted .375 over the four games, securing six hits, three runs, a double and a triple.
The Pios pitching staff had an outstanding game on Tuesday, striking out a combined 14 batters over nine innings. Junior
Mitch Hawkins pitched a strong five innings allowing four hits, no runs and six strikeouts.
PJ Rogan, a switch pitcher had a perfect week securing two saves. The sophomore threw the ninth inning Tuesday, securing two strikeouts and a ground out to earn the Pios' win.
SCOUTING MOUNT SAINT MARY'S
The Mount is 6-5 on the season coming off four straight losses last weekend to Indiana and Stetson in DeLand, Fla. The team was ranked No. 7 in the MAAC Preseason Poll to put them in the middle of the pack.
Mount Saint Mary's has depth through its batting lineup. Even Meier leads the Mountaineers in batting average at .389 and doubles with five. Mateo Zappieri paces the team in home runs with five, RBIs with 12 and a .744 slugging percentage.
ALL-TIME SERIES
SHU leads the series with the Mountaineers 40-20. The Pios are currently on a seven-game winning streak – sweeping the past two series in 2022 and 2021.
