Women's Golf Finishes Third at First MAAC Championship

Cantu and Robilio made the All-Championship Team

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Sacred Heart University women's golf team placed third at the program's first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, which concluded on Saturday at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

The Pioneers placed third out of eight teams with a score of 904 (304-297-303), 40 strokes over par. SHU was in third place after every round of the event. Quinnipiac won their fourth MAAC Championship in the last five seasons, finishing at 19-over par with a score of 883. Last season's champs of UAlbany took second at +32. 

Merrimack and Siena rounded out the top five at +50 and +56, respectively. Fairfield (+73), Mount St. Mary's (+80) and Niagara (+90) completed the field in sixth, seventh and eighth place, respectively. 

Leading the way for SHU was Maite Cantu and Maya Robilio as both made the All-Championship Team. Cantu capped her first collegiate season with a score of 222 (+6) to tie for 4th. Robilio climbed five spots on the individual leaderboard to tie for sixth at 223 (+7) after her tournament-best round of 72 (E) today. 

Nahia Paulerena, Jessie Burch and Jensie Nicholas completed SHU's lineup at the event. Paulerena placed T11th after rounds of 79, 72 and 76 for a final score of 227 (+11). Burch took T20th after carding a final score of 232 (+16), while Nicholas finished 35 at 248 (+32).
