FAIRFAX, VA. — The Pioneers traveled to the Commonwealth of Virginia to compete at the Ebanks Invitational on the campus of George Mason University. After two days of competition, Saturday proved to be a truly historic day, as four school records were broken.
Magdalena Brogioli was part of three of the four records. The junior broke the 100-meter dash record (12.02) and 100-meter hurdles record (14.16) and led off the 4x100-meter relay team. Mackenzie Fuhrer, Annalise Nassy, and Nyahingiva Musa completed the relay team, which ran 47.11, breaking the previous record set last weekend. The final record was broken by Jenna Engels in the pole vault. The senior high-flyer cleared 3.82m and finished the competition in third.
Grace Sousa claimed the only event win for the Pioneers, completing her 5k in 17:16.20. More top finishes would be had throughout the track as Rafael Mahario opened his season placing in fifth after running 48.12 in the 400m and another fifth place finish for Sierra Thompson in the 200m dash.
Sierra Thompson would have another top finish in the long jump after finishing in second with a leap of 5.80m. In the throws, third-place finishes were had by Tyler Duran in the hammer throw and Kaitlyn Luba in the javelin. Marisa Imme finished right behind Luba in fourth. Aidan Glennon threw 15.04m in shotput to claim fourth, and a trio of Pioneers finished the men's javelin fourth through sixth. Mason Marino was to top Pioneer in fourth with Hunter Bishop in fifth and Albert Depierro right behind in sixth.
