EDISON, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) have announced the 2025–26 conference schedule. SHU, entering its second year as a league member, will play 20 MAAC contests. There will be 10 at home and 10 on the road, between December 3 and February 27.
The Pioneers open conference play on Wednesday, December 3, when they travel to take on the defending MAAC Champions, Mount St. Mary's. SHU welcomes its first MAAC opponent to the Pitt Center on Sunday, December 7, when the Pioneers host Iona, the only matchup against the Gaels this season.
The Pios will play four straight non-conference games. They return to MAAC play on Monday, December 29, welcoming Merrimack to the Pitt Center in a 2025 MAAC Quarterfinal rematch.
Sacred Heart will next battle in-state rival Quinnipiac at home on January 11 and on the road on January 30. SHU will face cross-town rival Fairfield later in the season, at home on February 5 and on the road on February 20. The Pioneers defeated the Stags three times last season.
SHU will wrap up conference play with their second meeting against the 2025 MAAC Champions, Mount St. Mary's, on Friday, February 27, at home in the Pitt Center.
The 2026 MAAC Men's Basketball Championship will take place March 5–10 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.
Under the MAAC format, each team plays 20 league games but does not face four opponents twice. Sacred Heart will not play Siena, Iona, Saint Peter's, and Manhattan in a home-and-home series this season.
Last season, the Pioneers finished as the seventh seed with a 10-10 conference record and made the program's first appearance in MAAC postseason play. The Pios defeated Fairfield in the first round, advancing to the quarterfinals to meet long-time foe Merrimack. SHU went on an 11-2 run in the final minutes of regulation to force overtime, but the Warriors ultimately defeated SHU 66-62.
Sacred Heart had three All-MAAC selections last season and is returning two this year,
