Men’s Golf Begins UConn Invite in 11th

Pios just 10 strokes off tying second place
HAMPDEN, Mass. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team sits in 11th place after the first round of the UConn Invitational, which began on Sunday morning at the GreatHorse Golf Club in Hampden, Mass.
The Pioneers carded an 18-hole score of 306 (+18) to sit in 11th out of 15 teams. The field sits closely together, as second through 11th place are separated by 10 strokes. The hosts from UConn lead the way at even par, while Villanova and Fairfield lead a congested pack of team in second at +8.
Mike Rothberg leads the way for SHU at even-par 72. The senior is tied for 11th after 18 holes, carding a pair of birdies.
Alex Turlik and Luciano Moratinos are next Pioneers on the leaderboards, in T28th and T42rd, respectively. Turlik carded a 75 (+3) with two birdies, while Moratinos posted a 77 (+5) with two birdies of his own.
Rounding out SHU's competitors at the event are Quin Adams (+10) and Leo Dixon (+12) in T76th and 82rd, respectively.
