Fairfield, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University Department of Athletics announced the formation of the Sacred Heart Athletics Hall of Fame to celebrate years of athletic excellence and accomplishments by Pioneer student-athletes, teams, coaches, and supporters. An inaugural Hall of Fame class is expected to be announced in the Fall of 2026.

For more than 60 years, Pioneer student-athletes have brought immeasurable distinction to Sacred Heart Athletics, reaching new levels in their respective sports and excelling in the classroom. Additionally, Pioneer student-athletes have gone on to some of the most successful professional careers.

"The formation of the Sacred Heart Athletics Hall of Fame is an exciting way to honor the tradition of excellence that has shaped Pioneer Athletics over the last six decades," said Executive Director of Athletics Judy Ann Riccio. "I look forward to the opportunity to celebrate the milestones, moments, and memories that have been the foundation of Pioneer athletics."

Induction classes will be announced annually during the fall semester and honored at halftime of a football game or intermission of a men's hockey game during the respective academic year.

A selection committee will be formed during the Spring 2026 semester and will consist of members of the athletic department staff and prominent Sacred Heart alumni.

Nominations Now Open
With the establishment of the Sacred Heart Athletics Hall of Fame, nominations are now accepted via an online form at SacredHeartPioneers.com. While nominations will remain open year-round, to be eligible for selection in the inaugural class, nominations must be submitted by Sunday, May 31. Nominations are available in the following categories.

·       Student-athlete: Must have attended Sacred Heart for a minimum of two (2) years and been separated from the University for a minimum of five (5) years 

·       Coach/Administrator: Must be at least five (5) years removed from coaching at Sacred Heart 

·       Team: Limited to a team that has achieved outstanding success in their field of play, including but not limited to win-loss records, national championships, league or conference championships, or participation in postseason tournaments 

·       Special Inductee: An individual, living or deceased, who has made unique and extraordinary contributions to Sacred Heart Athletics. Special Inductees may include distinguished alumni, friends of SHU Athletics, or other individuals
