BOSTON – With strong showings in the Sacred Heart men's ice hockey sweep of Niagara this weekend,
Noah Ellis and
Teagan Kendrick won Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) weekly awards, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
Both players played integral roles in the Pioneers' road sweep. In recognition of their contributions, Ellis was named the Defenseman of the Week and Kendrick the Rookie of the Week. SHU took the first game 5-4 in overtime on Friday and the second game 4-2 on Saturday.
Ellis was outstanding on both ends of the ice to secure his first weekly honor from the conference. The senior blueliner finished tied for second on the team with three points, scoring two goals and dishing out an assist, while also blocking four shots. He started the weekend on Friday with a long-range goal to tie the score at 4-4 in the third period to force overtime. Ellis then tallied a goal and an assist in a 4-2 Pios win on Saturday, marking his first career multi-point game.
Kendrick added two more wins to his resume this weekend, making 53 saves, with a .898 save percentage and a 2.96 goals against average. Kendrick kicked things off with 26 saves on Friday in a back-and-forth contest. He was even better in game two, allowing just one even-strength goal in a 4-2 SHU win Saturday.
