MAKING A FUSS OVER FUST
For the second time in his collegiate career—and the first time with the Pioneers—
Ray Fust tallied a two-goal game with a pair of strikes against Robert Morris on Tuesday. The senior from Switzerland had a hand in SHU's first three goals, assisting on the first and scoring the next two, the latter being the game-winner. Fust last recorded a two-goal game on Jan. 14, 2023, with Nebraska-Omaha.
POWER PLAY SPECIALIST
With another power-play goal on Tuesday,
Felix Trudeau now has seven extra-man scores this season. The senior ranks second in the country in power-play goals, trailing only Michigan's Will Horcoff, who has eight. Trudeau has recorded six of his power-play goals in the last eight games, with all but one coming in SHU victories. In total, Trudeau has scored 16 goals this season, which is a new single-season career high for the senior, as he also paces the country with 1.0 goals per game.
LAST TIME OUT
The Pioneers did not miss a beat after not playing for over three weeks, claiming a convincing 5-2 win over Robert Morris in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play on Tuesday at the Martire Family Arena. SHU scored two goals in both the first and second periods, then added an empty-netter late to ice the victory.
Aiden VanRooyan kicked off the scoring 11:26 into the first period, marking his first goal as a sophomore. Fust tallied the next two goals—one in the first and one in the second—to extend the lead to 3-0, while Trudeau buried a power-play goal at 12:30 of the second to make it 4-0. Following a pair of Colonial goals,
John Driscoll sealed the win with an empty-net score.
Between the pipes,
Teagan Kendrick earned his second collegiate win with 23 saves. After another strong performance, the first-year netminder owns a 2.25 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
Robert Morris heads into Saturday's contest with a 4-11-2 overall record, sitting seventh in the AHA with a 4-4-1 league mark (14 points). RMU last earned a split at Air Force before Tuesday's game, which followed a win and a tie against Mercyhurst. The tie against the Lakers stands as Mercyhurst's (0-15-1) lone non-loss of the season.
The Colonials have been better on the road than at home this year, as three of the team's four wins have come away from Moon Township, Pa. Through 17 games, RMU sits near the bottom of the conference on both ends of the ice, ranking ninth in scoring offense (2.41 gpg) and scoring defense (3.82 gpg).
Forwards Tanner Klimpke and Jackson Reineke leads the Colonials with six goals this season. Freshman goaltender Charlie Schenkel anchors the RMU defense with a 4-10-2 record, a 3.26 goals-against average, and a .892 save percentage. He was named AHA Rookie of the Week after leading Robert Morris to five points in a weekend series against Mercyhurst.
ALL-TIME SERIES
SHU and RMU will meet for the 35th time on Saturday. The Colonials lead the all-time series, 23-10-1, though the Pioneers have dominated recent meetings. SHU has won nine straight contests and 10 of the last 11.
UP NEXT
SHU heads back on the road next weekend for a two-game set at Niagara on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 9-10. The opener in Niagara Falls, N.Y., is scheduled for a 6 p.m. puck drop.
