BOSTON – After leading the Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team to four Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) points this weekend, first year goaltender
Teagan Kendrick was named the AHA Rookie of the Week, as announced on Tuesday morning.
The Pioneers posted a pair of resilient showings against the challenging Falcons, erasing third-period deficits in both games to earn a win and a tie. SHU took the first game, 3-2, behind a pair of third-period tallies. Sacred Heart overcame a three-goal margin in game two, earning a 4-4 tie to collect another conference point.
Kendrick, a two-time Rookie of the Week, went 1-0-1 against AHA leading Bentley, tallying 70 saves, a 2.88 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. The St. Albert, Alberta, native made 31 saves in the opener on Friday before racking up 39 stops on Saturday. He was especially strong in crunch time of both contests, as he allowed just three goals combined over both second and third periods. Kendrick is undefeated in six straight starts, winning five straight before Saturday's tie.
The Pioneers next head to the Connecticut Ice Tournament on Friday, Jan. 23, for the 4PM opener against No. 6/7 Quinnipiac at Yale's Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn.
