
Men’s Golf Rallies, Takes Second at MAAC Championship

Lacayo and Rothberg led SHU in T6th
BAY LAKE, Fla. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team posted the best round three of the 2026 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship but saw its comeback attempt fall just short as the Pios finished as runners-up for the second straight season.
SHU carded a team score of 291 (+3) today to lead the field, giving them a final score of 872 (+8) after rounds of 293, 288 and 291. The Pioneers gave Iona everything it could handle, but the Gaels held on to claim the win with a team score of 868 (+4).
Like they have had all season, Pablo Lacayo and Mike Rothberg led the way for the Pioneers, finishing in a tie for sixth place with matching scores of 217 (+1). Lacayo tied for the best round of the day with a two-under 70 to climb six spots on the final leaderboard. Rothberg finished with a two-over 74 today after pacing SHU throughout the event.
Ronan Mooney and Sho Suzuki were next on the leaderboard for SHU, as the pair finished tied for 13th. The duo finished with scores of 222 (+6). Mooney tallied his best round of the day today, a one-under 71, while Suzuki concluded with a four-over 76.
Yu Chan Ji Lim rounded out SHU's lineup in a tie for 34th place, finishing his second conference championship with a score of 231 (+15).
