Pioneers sit in seventh as a team

CANTON, Mass. – Maite Cantu's strong second round leads the Sacred Heart University women's golf team after the opening day of the Red Bandana Invitational, hosted by BC at the Blue Hill Country Club in Canton, Mass.

The Pioneers sit in seventh place after the first 36 holes with a team score of 624 (+48). SHU opened with a 323 before a stellar 301 put them back in top-five contention. BC leads at +11, while Yale, Seattle and Fairfield are tied for second at +34.

Cantu paces the Pioneers in 12th place with a combined score of 152 (+8). She opened the day with an 81 (+9) before a stellar 71 (-1) propelled her up the leaderboard.

Jade Haylock and Garance Gueubel are next on the leaderboard for SHU in T21st and T27th, respectively. Haylock carded back-to-back rounds of 78 for a score of 156 (+12), while Gueubel went 79 and 78 for a 156 (+13).

Nahia Paulerena, Lauren Ogrodowicz and Morgan Withington rounded out the Pioneers' competitors in T45th, T52nd and T56th, respectively.

SHU will play the third and final round of the Red Bandana Invitational tomorrow morning at the Blue Hill Country Club.
