HERSHEY, Pa. – Sacred Heart women's ice hockey won 7-0 against Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers improved to 12-3, while the Dutchmen now sit at 2-6-2.
The two teams were playing solid defense for the majority of the opening period until SHU exploded for three goals in the span of under three minutes, including tallies from Jayne Lewis, Victoria Grimmer, and Taylor Moreland, as the Pioneers went into the first intermission with a 3-0 advantage.
In the second period, SHU notched a pair of goals and went into the third period with a 5-0 advantage despite some late pressure by LVC. The Dutchmen were able to apply some more pressure in the third, but had nothing to show for it thanks for some good goaltending by the Pioneers' goalie, Kayla Walewski. SHU found the back of the net two more times in the final period and went on to win by a 7-0 margin.
Starting goalie Sarah Erban earned the win after making three saves, and Walewski finished with 11 saves for the Pioneers. Jill Moffatt made 65 saves or Lebanon Valley.
Victoria Grimmer and Jayne Lewis recorded two goals and an assist apiece, while Moreland finished with one tally and a pair of assists.
The Pioneers are back in action Friday, Dec. 29 against Brown at 7:30 pm.
