Paulina Biega

Biega enters her fifth season as head coach of the Sacred Heart women’s wrestling team.

She made history when she joined the Pioneers prior to the 2021-22 season, becoming the first female NCAA Division I wrestling coach in the country.

A collegiate and international wrestler herself, Biega came to Sacred Heart after two seasons as an assistant coach at Campbellsville University.

Biega is a two-time Universities Nationals All-American and an International Polish Champion. She has also earned the title of Polish National Champion and placed third at the Cadet European Wrestling Championship.

She also assisted the coach staff at the 2024 Grand Prix of Spain and was a member of the coaching staff for the U23 Women’s Wrestling Pan American Team, bringing international experience and expertise to the Sacred Heart wrestling program.

2024-25 Season

  • 13 NWCA Scholar All-Americans
  • Two All-Americans
  • Placed ninth at the NCWWC National Championship
  • 14 NCWWC National Qualifiers
  • NCWWC Region 1 Runner-Up
  • Posted an overall national dual record of 10-8
  • Had one NWCA Region 1 Wrestler of the Month (Madison Sandquist)

2023-24 Season

  • 11 NWCA Scholar All-Americans
  • Four All-Americans
  • Took sixth at the NCWWC National Championship
  • 13 NCWWC National Qualifiers
  • Won the Northeast Regional Championship (back-to-back)
  • Went undefeated (12-0) in the Northeast Region
  • Posted an overall national dual record of 17-3
  • Had one NWCA Region I Wrestler of the Month (Aaliyah Payne-Parris | February)
  • Ranked fifth in the NWCA Preseason Team Rankings

2022-23 Season

  • Named NWCA Scholar All-America Team
  • Named NCWWC National Coach of the Year
  • Named NCWWC Regional Coach of the Year
  • Seven student-athletes earned NWCA Scholar All-America
  • Took seventh at the NCWWC National Championship
  • Five All-Americans
  • Ranked highest as seventh in NWCA Poll
  • Won the Northeast Regional Championship
  • Finished with a 17-4 dual meet record and a four-match winning streak. 

Inaugural Season

  • Three All-Americans, including a third place finished by Madison Sandquist at 143 pounds.
  • One Regional Champion 
  • Finished with a 6-4 mark during the dual meet season
  • Place 14th at Nationals and sixth at the Northeast Regional

BEFORE SHU

Cambellsville University

  • Two seasons as assistant coach
  • 2020 and 2021 NWCA National Champions
  • Runner-ups in NWCA National Duals
  • In 2019-20, a record-setting 13 CU student-athletes earned All-America honors, including a trio of individual national champions

Missouri Valley College

  • She assisted with all facets of the program and was also a coach at the Takedown Inc. Wrestling Academy
