BEMIDJI, MN -
Les Hrapchak scored off his own rebound with less than four minutes to play in regulation, and senior Eddy Ferhi made 43 saves, to help Sacred Heart salvage a 1-1 draw with the Bemidji State Beavers Friday night at John S. Glas Fieldhouse.
Hrapchak took a pass from Marc-Andre Fournier right in front of the crease and fired a shot off the pads of BSU goaltender Grady Hunt. Hunt couldn¹t control the rebound and Hrapchak quickly followed up and fired it home at 16:04 of the third for the game-tying goal.
Travis Barnes scored BSU¹s only goal, an even-strength tally in the first period on assists from freshmen Ryan Huddy and John Haider. The Beavers out-shot the Pioneers 14-9 in the first and 44-33 for the contest, but were unable to get another shot past Ferhi.
The Sacred Heart win marked the first time Bemidji State failed to post a victory over a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference team. Prior to the draw, BSU was 9-0-0 all-time against the MAAC.
There were ten penalties called in the contest but neither team was able to score on the power play. The Pioneers were 0-4, while Bemidji was 0-6. Ferhi made 11 of his 43 saves when the Beavers had the extra man.
The two teams will face off again Saturday evening.
