Sacred Heart Men's Ice Hockey Tops St. Nick's, 8-2, In Exhibition Opener

MILFORD, CT (October 4, 2002) - The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team defeated St. Nicholas Hockey Club, 8-2 in an exhibition game to kick off the 2002-03 season.
The scoring was opened by assistant captain Martin Paquet (St. Catherin, QUE) at 14:40 of the first period. His goal was assisted by senior defenseman Konn Hawkes (Watrous, SK). Junior forward Mike Reagan (Flin Flon, MB) scored at 15:52 and freshman forward Erik Roos (Milford, CT) scored at 18:20 assisted by Hawkes to put the Pioneers up 3-0 at the end of the first.
St. Nick's came back in the second on goals by Charlie Humber and Keith Dupee to come within one, but the Pioneers responded at 18:01 on a goal by Reagan to finish the period.
The third period was all Sacred Heart as juniors Marc-Andre Fournier (St. Nicholas, QUE) and Chuck Metcalfe (Edmonton, AB) combined for three goals in the period. Paquet scored the final goal of the game at 18:01.
Goaltender Eddy Ferhi (Charenton, France) made 13 saves on 14 shots in 30 minutes for the Pioneers and Kevin LaPointe (Quebec City, QUE) made 13 saves on 14 shots. St. Nick's goaltender Al Loges made 48 saves on 56 shots.
The Pioneers open the regular season on the road at Bemidji State in Minnesota on October 18th.
