SPRINGFIELD, MA (November 23, 2002) - The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent AIC, 5-2 on the road. Sophomore Garrett Larson (Rycroft, AB) netted the gamewinner at 16:04 in the first period.

The scoring was opened just over five minutes into the first period by senior Lloyd Tennant (Billings, MT), assisted by freshman Peter Giatrelis (Hamden, CT). Sophomore Barclay Folk (Westbank, BC) tallied his second of the season at 11:16 in the first, with an assist by junior Mike Reagan (Flin Flon, MB). Larson scored his goal next, assisted by seniors Martin Paquet (St. Catherine, QUE) and Les Hrapchak (Wakaw, SK).

In the second period, Larson scored his second of the game 23 seconds in from Paquet and Giatrelis. Larson closed out the scoring for the Pioneers.

The Yellowjackets took control of the third period scoring with goals by Ron Miller and Guillaume Caron.

Pioneer senior goaltender Eddy Ferhi (Charenton, France) earned the win, making 20 saves. AIC goaltenders Frank Novello (L) and Chad Davis split the game, with Novello recording five saves and Davis recording 20.

The Pioneers return to action December 6 as they play host to out-of-conference opponent Alabama-Huntsville at the Milford Ice Pavilion at 7 pm.
