
Pioneers Fall to #25 Boston College 94-49

The Eagles wasted little time in flexing their muscle, running out to a 13-0 lead just over three minutes in. The Pioneers missed their first four shots before freshman Amanda Pape (Stamford, CT) broke the ice with a jump shot at 13:46. BC kept the offensive pressure on getting the lead up to 27-4 before the second media timeout and led 45-22 at the half.
The second half proved more of the same, as the Eagles used a 20-8 run to increase their lead to 65-30 at the 12:40 mark. Macchia, who had 14 points at the half, went to the line 10 times in the second half, sinking eight. Junior Jessalyn Deveny and sophomore Brooke Queenan joined Macchia in double figures, scoring 21 and 12, respectively. Queenan also had 11 rebounds, notching a double double, with three assists, three steals and two blocks in the win.
The Eagles, now 8-1 overall, shot 59.7% (40-67) in the game while dominating in the paint, 46-18. BC also took advantage of SHU turnovers, scoring 34 points off Pioneer mistakes.
Sophomore Nicolle Rubino (Port Jefferson Station, NY) led all Sacred Heart players with 21 points on six-of-12 from the floor, three-of-four from three and six-of-six at the line. SHU didn't help itself, turning the ball over a season-high 27 times while shooting just 31.5% (17-54) in the loss.
The Pioneers, now 5-3 on the year, return to the court on Sunday, January 4th when the make the trip to Brown University to face the Bears in a 5 pm start.
