Jen Place Named Conference Softball Rookie of the Week

FAIRFIELD, CT - Freshman shortstop Jen Place (Latham, NY) was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week award after hitting .308 with four hits, three runs batted in, three stolen bases and one earned run last week.
She helped paced the Pioneers to a third place finish (3-2) at the UMBC Sping Classic, picking up wins over UMBC twice (3-2, 6-5) and UMES (10-1), after starting the tournament with losses to Albany (10-0) and Canisius (3-2, 8 inn.).
The rookie shortstop went 1-for-2 with an RBI and walk in the first UMBC game, 1-for-3 with an RBI against UMES and 2-for-4 with an RBI and stolen base in the second UMBC matchup. Place is hitting .306 with 11 hits, five runs batted in and one double in 15-games played.
