The Storyline... The Sacred Heart women's basketball team will make their fourth-straight Northeast Conference Tournament appearence since joining the league in 1999-00 as they take on the number four seeded Long Island Blackbirds Saturday afternoon. The two teams faced-off a week ago when LIU halted the Pioneer's seven game win streak with a 60-53 overtime win. The all-time series is tied at four games apiece with the Blackbirds taking the last four-straight. Sacred Heart and Long Island met last year in the semifinals of the NEC Tournament with LIU coming away with a 73-56 win. Both teams have relied heavily on the scoring punch of a senior-freshman duo. SHU is paced by senior Brooke Kelly (13.5 ppg/5.9rpg) and freshman Nicolle Rubino (12.4 ppg/3.5rpg) while LIU is led by defending NEC Player-of-the-Year, senior Tamika Dudley (15.4 ppg/9.2rpg) and freshman Amber Wirth (12.7 ppg/3.6 rpg).
