
Men's Ice Hockey Wins Final Regular-Season Game Over UConn, 5-2

STORRS, CT (February 25, 2003) - The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent UConn, 5-2, in the final game of the regular season. Freshman Bernie Chmiel (Pittsburgh, PA) netted the eventual game-winner at 15:44 in the second period on the power play.
Husky Tim Olsen opened the scoring at 4:02 in the first period, but the lead was short-lived as senior Michael Forsland (Anchorage, AK) scored just 22 seconds later from seniors Nick Nutcher (Hamden, CT) and Lloyd Tennant (Billings, MT). Freshman Rocco Molinaro (Dearborn, MI) put the Pioneers up by one at 7:31 in the first, assisted by senior Martin Paquet (Ste. Catherine, QUE) and sophomore Garrett Larson (Rycroft, AB). UConn's Patrick Donlon tied the score at 15:40.
Chmiel netted the Pioneer's third goal from junior Mike Reagan (Flin Flon, MB) and Molinaro. Paquet scored at 8:48 in the third from Molinaro and Larson. Junior Marc-Andre Fournier (St. Nicholas, QUE) tallied the final goal on the power play at 18:59 from Paquet and senior Konn Hawkes (Watrous, SK).
Pioneer senior goaltender Eddy Ferhi (Charenton, France) earned the win, making 36 saves. UConn netminder Artie Imbriano made 24 saves in the contest.
The Pioneers return to the ice Saturday, March 15th, as they participate in the MAAC Quarterfinal round of the playoffs.
