MOON TOWNSHIP, PA - Junior Leslie Konsig drove in three runs, while sophomore pitcher Lauren Lapinski allowed just one unearned run to give Sacred Heart University an 11-1 win in the second game of a doubleheader against Robert Morris University, giving the Pioneers a split of the twinbill. The Colonials won the first game 8-3, helped by three Sacred Heart errors.
The big inning in the opening game for Robert Morris was the second, when they plated four unearned runs on just three hits with a couple of Pioneer errors thrown in. Pinch hitter Jess Givens reached on an error by the shortstop with the bases loaded and two outs that opened the floodgates.
SHU starting pitcher Michele Walker, who suffered the loss despite allowing just six hits, had a pair of hits in the game for the Pioneers.
In the second game, the Pioneers scored three in the first inning off Colonial starter Erica Riggle. Konsig drove in one with a single, and two others scored on an infield error by Riggle.
It was 4-0 Pioneers after four, and they broke it open with a seven-run fifth inning. Heather Gutkes and Konsig each had two-run doubles in the inning.
The Pioneers are now 7-17 overall and 2-2 in the NEC. They will play a doubleheader at St. Francis of Pennsylvania on Sunday starting at noon.
