
Softball Receives Northeast Conference Honors

FAIRFIELD, CT - Senior captain Leslie Konsig was named the Northeast Conference Player-of-the-Week for the week ending March 16th. Joining her on the conference honor roll was Freshman-of-the-Week Caitlin Carroll.
Konsig, a native of Millburn, NJ, earned the season's first NEC Player of the Week after batting .281 (9-32) with four runs scored, seven RBI and two triples over 10 games to start the season. Konsig has hit safely in eight of 10 contests including 2-4 versus Holy Cross to start the season. Against the Crusaders, the Milburn, NJ native also added a run, three RBI and a triple. Against Toledo, the Pioneer collected the team's only two runs and also contributed another triple and two base-on-balls.
Through nine games of her collegiate career, Carroll, a native of Los Alamitos, CA, is batting .385 with 10 hits in 26 at-bats with four doubles, two runs and seven RBI. The Los Alamitos, CA product, in her first collegiate game, went 3-5 with a double and two RBI in a 10-5 win over Holy Cross on Mar. 7. Against Lehigh on Mar. 8, Carroll was 2-3 with an RBI and the same day against Butler matched the performance with two more hits, including two doubles with three batted in. She currently ranks first on her team in batting average, doubles and runs-batted-in.
Konsig, Carroll and the rest of the Pioneers open their 2004 Northeast Conference schedule this weekend with a doubleheader Saturday, March 27th, at 1:00 pm. The team then travels to Long Island to take on the Blackbirds on Sunday, March 28th, at 3:00 pm.
