SHU Women's Basketball Announces 2005-06 Schedule

FAIRFIELD, CT (September 30, 2005) -The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team released its 27-game schedule that features a challenging slate of out-of-conference opponents along with the traditional Northeast Conference match-ups.
The Pioneers tip-off the 2004-05 season on Friday, November 18th when they take on the Providence College Fiars in the first of two games against Big East teams this season. The road trip continues for Sacred Heart on Tuesday, November 22nd when they travel to Hofstra looking to avenge a last-second loss to the Pride last season.
The 27th of November takes the Pioneers to Upstate New York and the a date with the Syracuse Orange just after the Thanksgiving holiday.
The home portion of the schedule opens on Thursday, December 1st with the Yale University making the trip down I-95 to visit the William H. Pitt Center, one of the toughest arenas to play in on the east coast. The Pioneers will only play at home twice in the first nine games of the year but will open Northeast Conference play at home against St. Francis (NY) on December 7th.
The non-conference schedule also features meetings with Iona (12/17), a trip to Big 10 power Ohio State (12/20), Rider (12/29), St. Peter's (1/2) and Columbia (1/9).
In NEC play, the Pioneers will play each of the other ten schools in the NEC twice, with the exception of Robert Morris and Monmouth that they will play just once. The Colonials, who knocked off SHU in the semifinals of last year's tournament, will pay a visit on January 23rd. The Pioneers will close the regular season at the Hawks on February 28th.
The first two rounds of this year's NEC Tournament will be played on March 4th and 8th with the championship game slated for March 12th. Each game in this year's tournament will be played at the site of the higher seed.
