Robert Morris Scores a 3-0 Win over Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, CT (October 15, 2006) - The Sacred Heart volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Robert Morris Sunday afternoon in Northeast Conference action at the William H. Pitt Center. Robert Morris posted wins of 30-28, 30-15 and 30-21 to pick up their first NEC win on the year.

The Colonials (11-12, 1-0 NEC) ran out of the gates in game one and held leads of 10-3, 15-7, and 20-10 before SHU began to rally. The Pioneers cut into the lead and pulled the game even at 28-28 and were looking to steal a win. RMU rallied however and a kill from Janette Schneider and a SHU attack error ended the game at 30-28.

Robert Morris grabbed the lead at 2-1 in game two and never looked back cruising to the 30-15 win. The Colonials hit .367 in the game on 12 kills in 30 attempts with just one error. Game three saw RMU jumped out to a 16-9 lead which grew to 25-13 on their way to the 30-21 win.

Schneider led her team with 12 kills and a .360 hitting percentage (12-3-35). She added three solo blocks and a block assist to her stat line. Jennifer Stambaugh posted 11 kills and a .348 hitting percentage (11-3-23). Tawnya Storino finished with 34 assists and 12 digs. Libero Alaina Gibson finished with 10 digs and four service aces.

SHU (1-18, 0-2 NEC) got 13 digs from sophomore Katie Thomas (Wappingers Falls, NY). Senior Charnette Porter (Framingham, MA) had eight kills and four solo blocks in the loss.

The Pioneers will travel to Central Connecticut on Friday, October 20th for a 7:00 pm start.
