Burlington, NJ - Freshman Chelsea Furlani and junior Karen Sentoff each had a goal and two assists as Vermont topped Sacred Heart, 6-2, in women's college hockey Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
The Pioneers jumped on top early, grabbing a 1-0 edge just over two minutes into the contest. Sophomore Whitney Dziama (Walpole, MA) scored her first career goal on a feed from freshman Devon Kittredge (Upper Saddle River, NJ), who recorded her first carrer point on the play. However, the Catamounts bounced back to score three times in a span of 8:39 to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
Each Vermont goal came from a different player starting with Sarah Smiddy, Furlani and Melanie Greene in the first period. Kristi Anderson scored in the second period while Jenny Hogan and Sentoff closed the scoring in the final stanza.
Freshman Jenn Bragger (East Greenwich, RI) scored her first career goal to open the third, but it would not be enough. Senior Michelle Panella (Marlboro, NJ) had an assist on the play.
Stephanie Boulay (Anchorage, AK) made 25 saves for the Pioneers who were outshot by UVM, 31-12. Shivaun Siegl stopped 10 shots for the Catamounts.
The Catamounts and Pioneers face off at Gutterson Fieldhouse again on Saturday at 2:00pm.
