Senior Molly Pheterson and sophomore Alicia Psillos each scored four goals as Manhattan scored nine second half goals to power past Sacred Heart, 13-6, in women's lacrosse action Sunday afternoon at Campus Field.
Pheterson and Psillos got the Jaspers off to fast start with two free position shot goals in the first ten minutes. Sophomore Elizabeth Ottey (Baltimore, MD) put the Pioneers on the board halfway through the opening half, but junior Brenna Tinari scored two goals in the last 1:20 to give the Jaspers a 4-1 halftime lead.
Psillos and Pheterson each tallied goals in the first four minutes of the second half to put the Jaspers up 6-1. After senior Brianna Bubeck (Bethlehem, NY) drew the Pioneers within 6-2, the combination of Pheterson and Psillios struck again in the span of 1:20 to make it 8-2 Manhattan.
Bubeck and freshman Mary Montessarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) each scored to make the score 8-4 halfway through the second half. But then Psillios and sophomore Jillian McGowan put the Jaspers up 10-4 with 10 minutes left. Freshman Amanda Williams (Monroe, CT) made it 10-5 but, less then one minutes after that, Pheterson scored her fourth goal of the game and senior Kate Beasler tallied her first of the day to push the score to 12-5.
Montesarchio scored with 2:45 to go and Erin Warren capped the scoring for the Jaspers with 1:24 left in the game.
Manhattan out shot Sacred Heart 27-20 in the game to improve to 2-2 on the season. The Pioneers fell to 0-6.
The Pioneers are back in action Wednesday night when they visit Villanova. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
