Emily Tully scored three times to help the Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team to a 10-8 victory over Long Island University in a Northeast Conference game Sunday afternoon.
Long Island University junior Amy Rizzo opened the scoring, registering a goal just 39 seconds into the game. The Pioneers, 1-7 overall and 1-0 NEC, would tally the game's next two goals by Tully and Heather Gureckis to take a 2-1 lead.
The Blackbirds battled back as Nichole Lopez netted a shot to the lower left side and Rizzo nailed a free position attempt with seven seconds showing to cut the margin to 5-4 at the half.
Tully registered two scores in the first thirty seconds of the second stanza and Mary Montesarchio chipped in another goal at the 24:03 mark to push the Pioneers to an 8-5 advantage.
Rizzo scored five goals and added an assist to lead the Blackbirds, now 1-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
