Fairfield, CT (April 21, 2006) - Junior Brianna Bubeck (Bethlehem, NY) netted four goals and junior Heather Gureckis (Nashua, NH) contributed two more to help spark a streak of seven unanswered goals in the second half which clinched a 12-5 win over Quinnipiac for the Sacred Heart women's lacrosse squad Friday afternoon.
The Pioneers, who now boast a 6-1 conference record, answered to Quinnipiac's first score of the contest when senior Emily Tully (South Windsor) tallied her fifteenth goal of the campaign.
The Bobcats took a 3-2 lead with just over seven minutes remaining in the half, but Bubeck struck for three consecutive goals in a minute and eleven seconds to give the Pioneers a 5-3 halftime lead.
The visiting Bobcats evened the score at five apiece when they received goals from senior Melissa Jordan and freshman Nicole Fiore at 1:08 and 4:27 respectively.
At 13:26, sophomore Katie Salamone (Baltimore, MD) netted a score on a free position shot and the Pioneers never looked back. Sacred Heart received six other goals following Salamone's from Gureckis, junior Maureen Hohn (Lutherville, MD), and freshman Mary Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) to close out the victory.
Sacred Heart, who has clinched league playoff berth, close out the regular season on Sunday afternoon at Campus Field against Central Connecticut State. Prior to the game, the squad's seniors will be honored for their services as a Pioneer. Senior Day is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
