Orono, ME - Sophomore Carisa Eye (Nesconset, NY) scored two goals as the Pioneers field hockey squad jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held on for a 4-1 win over Rhode Island Sunday afternoon at Morse Field in Orono, ME. The win was Sacred Heart's first of the 2006 season.

Eye, who led SHU in scoring during 2005, got the Pioneers started with her first goal of the year 11:34 into the game. Senior Colleen Carney (Yorktown Heights, NY) set her up with a pass and Eye put a shot past Rams goaltender MJ Britt for the 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers went up 2-0 at the 24:22 mark of the opening half. Sophomore Amy Hendricks (Milford, PA) took a pass from freshman Erica Benn (Oakhurst, NJ) and fired a wide shot that found its way into the back of the net for the tally. It was Hendricks' first goal of the year, and it gave the Pioneers a two goal lead at the break.

Sacred Heart put the game away with two goals in a seven minute span early in the second half. First, junior Jenn Howley (North Salem, NY) scored her first goal of the year at the 46:16 mark. Eye tallied her second marker of the game 53:25 into the match to give the Pioneers a 4-0 lead.
