NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University field hockey team delivered a strong performance to defeat Stonehill 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in NEC action on senior day.

How It Happened:
The Pioneers came out fast with two first-quarter goals. Cassie Chapjian opened the scoring just over two minutes in, followed by a tally from Celia Benson at the 9:23 mark to double the lead.
Sacred Heart continued its offensive surge in the second quarter as Jenna Baxter and Cate McConaghy each found the back of the cage within a two-minute span. Both goals were assisted by Bridget McLaughlin, who recorded a pair of helpers on the day.
Stonehill broke up the shutout late in the fourth quarter with a goal from Havana De Roeck in the 57th minute, but it was too little too late as the Pioneers closed out the win.
Sacred Heart outshot Stonehill 21-13 and held an 11-3 edge in shots on goal. The Pioneers also earned seven penalty corners to Stonehill's five.
