
Men's Basketball Runs Away From Monmouth, 74-57

FAIRFIELD, CT - Junior Luke Granato (Rocky Hill, CT) poured in 22 points, while junior Drew Shubik (Stoystown, PA) added 16 to lead the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team to a 74-57 win over visiting Monmouth University in a Northeast Conference men's basketball game Thursday night. The victory kept the Pioneers perfect at home at 5-0.
Monmouth, 7-9 and 2-2, opened up a 15-6 with 12:44 left in the first half after a three-pointer by Whitney Coleman. Sacred Heart went on a 17-1 run over the next eight minutes to take a 23-16 advantage. They led at the intermission, 30-21. Senior Jarrid Frye (Queens, NY) led SHU in the first half with ten of his 12 points. Monmouth shot just 29.6 from the field in the half.
The Pioneers extended the lead to 11 in the first two minutes of the second half on a pair of treys from Shubik. By the midway point of the period, SHU held an 18-point lead at 57-39 after a dunk from junior Joey Henley (Kent, WA). Henley finished the game with eight points and led both teams with eight rebounds.
Monmouth was led by freshman Jhamar Youngblood and senior Dejan Delic with 14 points apiece. Senior guard Marques Alston added 13.
Granato, the leading three-point shooter in the conference, converted five of his 13 treys. SHU out rebounded Monmouth 44-25.
The win evens the Pioneer record at 8-8 overall and they move to 4-1 in the NEC for the first time ever in school history.
