Women's Volleyball Swept by LIU, 3-0

Nov. 10, 2007

FAIRFIELD, CT - The Long Island University women's volleyball team kept its perfect Northeast Conference match record alive by defeating Sacred Heart tonight, 3-0 (30-15, 30-26, 30-20). The loss dropped the Pioneers to 9-18 overall and 3-4 in the NEC.

The Blackbirds are 7-0 in the conference and haven't lost a game to an NEC opponent.

LIU, 18-12 and 7-0, blitzed the Pioneers in the first game 30-15. Game number two was much different as SHU held the lead for a large portion. The Pioneers actually held a 24-23 lead after a kill by Annie Archer (Littleton, CO), but the Blackbirds closed out the game with a 7-2 run.

Game three was tied at 10-10, but LIU exploded on a 24-4 run to take control and coast home and close out the match.

Martina Wagner led LIU with 14 kills, without committing an attack error. Shelby Heggie was also in double digits with ten kills.

Freshman Mydori Saipale (Oxnard, CA) led SHU with ten kills and seven digs.

The Pioneers will finish the regular season tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 against Central Connecticut State.
