Final Stats
FAIRFIELD, CT (April 15, 2007) - Sacred Heart senior Tara Gebbia (Upper Nyack, NY) scored four times with fellow senior Brianna Bubeck (Bethlehem, NY) adding two goals and three assists to lead the Pioneers to a 22-3 Northeast Conference win over Saint Francis (PA) Sunday afternoon on a rain soaked Campus Field. Sophomore Carissa Hauser (East Northport, NY) lead all scorers with six points on four goals and two assists as the Pioneers improve to 6-7 overall and 4-3 in the NEC.
The Pioneers (6-7, 4-3 NEC) wasted little time building their lead, running out to a 9-0 lead by the 13 minute mark. Gebbia scored her first career goal off a feed from Bubeck at 17:18 before adding three more to her final totals. SHU led 13-2 at the half, out shooting SFPA 26-3 while winning 13 draws.
The second half was more of the same for SHU as the Pioneers scored the first six goals to build a 19-2 lead on the road to victory. Sacred Heart finished the day out shooting the Red Flash 43-7 and winning 21 of 27 draws taken. The Pioneers picked up 24 ground balls in the win.
In addition to Gebbia, Bubeck and Hauser's stat lines, junior Katie Salamone (Baltimore, MD) notched three goals while sophomores Amanda Williams (Monroe, CT) and Meghan McCaffrey (Garden City, NY) each scored twice. McCaffrey added two assists to her pair of goals to finish with a career-high four points.
Junior Liz Ottey (Baltimore, MD) and sophomore Mary Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) each scored a goal with two assists. Freshman Cori Horelik (South Windsor, CT) scored her second goal of the season and also set up another. Fellow freshmen Marjory Jones (Barneville, MD) and Farra Coppola (Wantagh, NY) also scored, each recording their first collegiate goals.
The Red Flash (0-10, 0-7 NEC) got goals from Brittany Bullion, Meghan Crosby and Belynda Gardner. SFPA turned it over 31 times and had 15 failed clears in the loss.
The Pioneers will close out the regular season next Sunday, April 22nd when they travel to Central Connecticut for a 1:00 pm start. Sacred Heart remains in the hunt for an NEC playoff spot at 4-3.
